If you’re living in Barcelona, chances are you’ll have a few visitors wanting to come for a visit. One of the trickier things about hosting guests is being unsure of where to take them. If you’re searching for a special place for a nice dinner, then you don’t have to think too hard. Here are five of our favourite places to take out guests for dinner in Barcelona that will have them leaving with a smile. Just make sure you call ahead to make a reservation as you never know how busy a place can get!
El Asador de Aranda
The Asador de Aranda has locations throughout all of Spain and a few in Barcelona, but the one on Avenida Tibidabo is the most impressive and well-known. If you’re arriving by metro, the walk up to the mansion will be a pleasant surprise. The restaurant’s specialty is the roasted suckling lamb and is unlike any lamb you have tasted before. Accompany it with traditional tapas done right such as escalivada (smoky grilled vegetables), artichokes, morcilla (Spanish blood sausage), jamón and Spanish wine and your guests will be more than happy about your choice to bring them here.
Robata
Even if you’re not a lover of sushi, Robata offers such a great variety of Japanese cuisine on its menu that makes it hard to not want to order everything! Robata knows sushi. With fresh and quality fish, attention to detail and mouthwatering flavours, it is worth a trip here if you have guests with higher than normal expectations.
Can Cisa (Bar Brutal)
As soon as you walk into this little restaurant on Carrer Princesa in the Born neighbourhood, you will notice that their wine cellar is practically on display. With a focus on natural and organic wines, their sommeliers really know their stuff. Can Cisa changes its menu often, showing their creativity and passion for new and exciting flavours. You can expect a casual atmosphere with surprisingly delicious dishes.
Casa Mary y Rufo
Tucked away in Born right across from the Mercat de Santa Caterina, this little mom-and-pop resto gets its fresh fish straight from the market. You wouldn’t think it from passing by, but this very simple place serves up some delicious seafood. If you are looking for a simple, yet authentic meal in Barcelona with attentive service, but without all the frills, this place is really worth a visit. The octopus (as seen in the photo above) is some of the best we’ve had in Barcelona!
Bar del Pla
There’s a reason this place always has clusters of people trying to get in. Bar del Pla is open all day and sees locals and tourists alike filing in for the quality tapas and a laidback atmosphere. They’ve got a nice selection of wines and their old-school menu features tapas, “grandma’s dishes” including chicken cannelloni and beef cheek, and dishes of the day. Order everything to share (we love the mushroom wasabi salad) and you’ll be leaving with some happily fed guests.
Do you have a go-to restaurant you take your guests to?
