The most effective method to learn Spanish in Barcelona
Speakeasy BCN is a Spanish language school located in central Barcelona. Our Spanish courses are built on a modern immersion philosophy, offering the fastest path not just to learn Spanish in Barcelona — but to speak Spanish with confidence.
Immersive Spanish courses
Over the past 30 years, studies have proven that immersing yourself in the language you’re learning leads to higher levels of fluency. Experts believe that if you’re forced to speak a foreign language to socialize or navigate day-to-day life, then you’re more motivated to learn.
At Speakeasy BCN, in-person immersion is the foundation of our teaching methodology. In all your Spanish classes, your interactions and materials are exclusively in Spanish. Along with a small group of 8-13 students of the same ability, you quickly learn to speak Spanish with confidence – while making connections with other international adult learners and exploring the beautiful city of Barcelona!

Our Spanish courses
Our language school currently offers 15 different types of Spanish courses in Barcelona. Our most popular is the 20h/ week intensive Spanish course where students move up one Spanish language level every two weeks! Our variety of course schedules and flexible course durations are made to fit adult lifestyles. We offer a wide range of course schedules and flexible durations designed to suit adult lifestyles. Whether you're looking for an intensive daytime program or need evening classes that fit around a full-time job with breaks for business trips, we’ve got a course that works for you.
All our Spanish lessons follow the unique CASA Program (Coherent and Active Spanish Assimilation). The program builds a strong foundation through the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) going from A1 to C2. We add 2-3 ‘mini levels’ between each of these to help you recognize your language learning progress even more. That means you’ll be in a class with people who are at the exact same level as you — no more feeling left behind or getting bored because others are way ahead or still catching up!
Thanks to our small class sizes, we tailor each Spanish course for beginners, intermediate and advanced Spanish learners. All our Spanish courses have rolling admissions, so you can start learning Spanish the week you arrive in Barcelona — and if the Spanish lessons are above or below your level, you can quickly change classes.

Is Barcelona a good place to learn Spanish?
Our student advisors regularly hear this question: “Don’t they speak Catalan in Barcelona?” Catalan is the native language of Barcelona and the Catalonia region, and it’s the language used in local organizations and the government.
But that won’t restrict you from learning Spanish in Barcelona. As a metropolitan city, over 60% of Barcelona residents use only Spanish as their day-to-day language. Over 98% of Barcelona’s residents are also fluent in Spanish, so you’ll never have trouble talking with locals.
While Catalan is widely spoken in Barcelona, it’s important to remember that Spain is a multilingual country. Other regions also have their own co-official languages: Galician in Galicia, Basque (Euskera) in the Basque Country, and Valencian in the Valencia region. These languages reflect the rich cultural diversity of Spain. However, Spanish is the official language of the entire country and is spoken by the vast majority of the population. No matter where you are in Spain, Spanish is the common thread that connects all regions and people.
So, even in a bilingual city like Barcelona, you'll find countless opportunities to practice and improve your Spanish every day.
